LEAD CASHIER

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Collects payments and issues receipts for fees and charges based on established rate schedule. Assists other cashiers with payment and customer issues. Work requires extensive public contact.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This responsible clerical work requires accuracy, attention to detail and independent judgment. An employee in a position allocated to this classification operates an automated cash register to receive and record payments made by the public.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Receives payments of cash, checks, credit cards and issues receipts.
  • Enters and totals fees due or assessed based on established rate schedule.
  • Operates automated cash register and makes change as necessary.
  • Cancels automatic payments returned by bank. Reverses credit card payments. Researches payment discrepancies.
  • Maintains suspense account (as directed by Assistant Supervisor). Observes Office Supervisor as payments received are counted and compared to cash register tape.
  • Initiates and maintains Auto Pay accounts. Processes Refund Vouchers.
  • Assists Cashiers with payments, questions and procedures.
  • Files and maintains records of daily receipts and reports.
  • Completes various assignments as directed by Supervisors.
  • Performs related work as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years progressively responsible experience involving extensive public contact in handling cash, issuing receipts and maintaining related records. Must have ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
 
Preferences
   One (1) year banking and reconciliation experience. Experience handling customer complaints.
