METER READER II

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Performs routine and non-routine field work reading meters and noting meter repair or replacement needs.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

Responsibilities include reading meters and reporting malfunctioning meters and unauthorized connections. Performs turn on and the turn off process. Knows meter routes and meters locations and performs customer contacts in the field. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Meter Reader Supervisor who evaluates performance based on observation, meeting, number of meters read, accuracy and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Reads water meters and record usage.
  • Reports meters needing repair and replacement.
  • Checks for meter tampering.
  • Identifies and reports unauthorized connections.
  • Performs new account turn on and turn off terminated accounts.
  • Read sewer meters and special meters.
  • Knows locations of all meters and has working knowledge of all meter routes.
  • Interacts with staff and the public, explains County and department policies and procedures.
  • Fills in for Meter Reader III as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions, and one year experience as a Meter Reader I or equivalent position.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather be in good physical health and able to walk five to eight miles per day.
