INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC II

General Functions
  

Performs mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on pumping systems, blowers, gearboxes and mechanical drive systems, in a major industrial plant environment or the water and wastewater field with multiple critical processes.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the Manager. Performance is reviewed through observations and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Performs as a lead mechanic, organizing and supervising major overhauls and repair projects.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs industrial water and wastewater processing equipment.
  • Supports field staff in the operation of water and or wastewater transmission, collections and pumping systems.
  • Trains staff in the repair and maintenance of the processing equipment related to the field.
  • Replaces bearings, aligns motors and pumps to minimize vibration and stresses.
  • Periodically rebuilds and repairs pumps.
  • Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on all pumps, motors, mechanical process equipment and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Pressurizes and tests piping system in fluid systems.
  • Uses technical manuals and drawings to repair equipment as needed.
  • Install pumps, valves and associated piping, removes and cleans pumps, checks valves, troubleshoots and repairs equipment failures and confined space entry when required.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in extensive automotive or mechanical repairs to include experience in disassembly and repair of pumps.

Or

Completion of a certified mechanical (or related) program and (4) years of experience in extensive automotive or mechanical repairs to include experience in disassembly and repair of pumps

Or

An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License with the ability to obtain a Florida Commercial Drivers License.

Note: Depending on area of assignment some divisions may require a Class B CDL with required endorsements within six (6) months of hire or promotion.

Or

Internal promotion from an Industrial Mechanic I to a II, the following criteria must be met:

  • Complete the myOCLearn Lock-out/Tag-out course
  • Complete the myOCLearn Water Industry Maintenance on Pumps, Motors and Circuits
  • Forklift Certified
  • Current Defensive Driving certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Complete evaluation for “Mechanical Job Planning” by the supervisor
 
Preferences
  
  • Supervisory experience including oversight of contractor personnel and work.
  • Experience in water and or wastewater operations processes and knowledge of related trades.
  • Knowledge and skill in maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Safe crane certification.
  • Heavy equipment and forklift operating skills.
  • Operational experience with machine shop equipment, portable electric and pneumatic tools.
  • Experience using portable pumps and generators.
  • Experience in conducting repairs according to technical manuals and drawings.
  • Knowledge of valves and valve repairs.

Additional Preference for Field Services

  • Completion of FWPCOA Wastewater Operators Certification Class C or above.
