General Functions
   Manages the Convention Center Capital Planning and Building Systems sections to include construction and renovation projects from conception, through design, construction and completion. Also responsible for ensuring the OCCC is a safe environment which meets all required federal, state and local guidelines and regulations related to building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, emergency and mechanical systems.

This position requires leadership skills, process ownership, decision making, administrative and technical expertise. Work is performed with independence and initiative under general supervision by the Convention Center Assistant Director.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Identify, evaluate and prioritize Capital Planning and Building System needs at the Orange County Convention Center.
  • Work with OCCC Executive team, County Administration, the Board of County Commissioners, International Drive District stakeholders, local hoteliers and clients to develop and prioritize capital improvements for future implementation.
  • Work with Purchasing, Building, Zoning, Public Works and Utilities departments to ensure objectives are clearly defined, design standards are met and code compliance is assured.
  • Develop scope of work for requests for bid, evaluate bid responses and make recommendations for accepted bids.
  • Develop and manage OCCC capital improvements budget as well as Capital Planning and Building Systems sections operating budgets.
  • Ensure coordination with show activity when planning work schedules to avoid any disruption or revenue loss.
  • Assign and direct work activities for Capital Planning staff as well as consultants.
  • Supervises a large multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for their hiring, training, motivation and evaluation.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Building Construction, Business Administration or Architecture or closely related field and eight years in construction to include three years as a construction superintendent or a higher level position. Experience must include work as a project manager or owner's representative.
 
Preferences
   Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Building Construction, Business Administration or Architecture or closely related field.

Experience with large convention or hotel space.
