TECHNICAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

General Functions
   Performs professional work managing all aspects of one section of the Orange County Convention Center. Meets with event coordinators, exhibitors, technical contractors, county officials and Convention Center staff to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction. Performs supervisory work in highly technical areas. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments
   Duties may vary based on assignment
  • Conducts or attends meetings with managers, supervisors, staff and clients to identify technical requirements.
  • Develops, implements and oversees special projects/tasks as assigned by Division Manager.
  • Coordinates projects from concept to completion.
  • Designs and recommends technical solutions based on the available technologies in order to produce the best service possible to the client.
  • Supports needs of show activity.
  • Prepares and analyzes reports generated by the section and makes recommendations to increase revenue, decrease operating expenses and improve efficiency.
  • Monitors and verifies Job Order Contract (JOC) cost estimates.
  • Prepares, recommends, and monitors section budget consistent with Orange County policy and regulations.
  • Conducts field inspections for quality assurance and contract compliance.
  • Provides training for assigned staff relating to section’s systems and section guidelines.
  • Schedules, assigns and supervises work activities according to client and facility needs and requirements.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for all direct reports and reviews performance evaluations for all staff assigned to the section.
  • Ensures that assigned staff adheres to County policies and regulations, State and Federal regulations.
  • Meets the Center of Hospitality (CoH) standards.

Event Utilities Supervisor
  • Reviews design specifications for Exhibits and recommends changes or additions.
  • Manages overall administrative functions related to Event Utilities, including but not limited to correspondence, complaints and personnel matters.
  • Initiates, develops and monitors contracts for required outside services.
  • Monitors event related capital improvement projects.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of Event Utilities Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversees and approves section purchases for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Develops technical reports and statistical analysis relevant to Event Utilities operations.
HVAC Supervisor
  • Reviews design specifications with architects, engineers and planners prior to project approval and scheduling.
  • Manages overall administrative functions related to Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) including but not limited to correspondence, complaints and personnel matters.
  • Initiates, develops and monitors contracts for required outside services.
  • Monitors facility related capital improvement project requests.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of HVAC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversees and approves sectional purchases for materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Develops technical reports and statistical analysis relevant to HVAC operations.
  • Manages Fire Systems in accordance with National Fire Protection Association guide lines
  • Develops and manages total HVAC budget.
  • Reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to appropriate Fire and Mechanical codes.
Facility Maintenance Supervisor
  • Reviews design specifications with architects, engineers and planners prior to project approval and scheduling.
  • Manages overall administrative functions related to Facility Maintenance including but not limited to correspondence, complaints and personnel matters.
  • Initiates, develops and monitors contracts for required outside services.
  • Monitors facility related capital improvement project requests.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of Facility Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversees and approves sectional purchases for materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Develops technical reports and statistical analysis relevant to Facility Maintenance operations.
  • Assigns work orders to Facility Maintenance Technicians and supervises to assure completion.
  • Monitors the preventative maintenance program.
  • Interfaces with Facility Operations Manager on issues related to facility maintenance.
  • Reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to appropriate Electrical, Life Safety and Plumbing codes.
Technical Services Supervisor
  • Supervises the maintenance, repair and service work of the Audio, Lighting, Distributive Television and Electronic Sign systems.
  • Supervises/oversees the technical aspects of 2500 seat State of the Art Theater.
  • Manages overall administrative functions related to Technical Services including but not limited to correspondence, complaints and personnel matters.
  • Initiates, develops and monitors contracts for required outside services.
  • Monitors Audio, Lighting, Distributive Television and Electronic Sign Systems related to capital improvement projects.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of Technical Services Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversees and approves sectional purchases for materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Develops technical reports and statistical analysis relevant to Technical Services operations.
Rigging Supervisor
  • Supervises the maintenance, repair and service work.
  • Reviews plans, blueprints, and diagrams for clients.
  • Prepares quotes/estimates for labor and equipment for clients.
  • Oversees and approves sectional purchases for materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Manages overall administrative functions related to Rigging Section including but not limited to correspondence, complaints and personnel matters.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of Rigging Section Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Makes decisions in regards to whether or not signs, banners or equipment provided by clients can be suspended safely. May recommend solutions if applicable.
Life Safety Systems Supervisor
  • Interfaces with authority having jurisdiction and other testing agencies to schedule and perform Life Safety Systems testing to Building Systems.
  • Supervises staff responsible for monitoring and addressing Building Life Safety Systems.
  • Monitors and develops scope of services for contractors to provide system upgrades, maintenance and monitoring of Building Life Safety Systems.
  • Provides testing documentation and verification of Building Life Safety Systems associated with Fire Protection, Fire Alarm, Smoke Evacuation, Emergency Generator and Electrical Circuits.
  • Reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to appropriate Life Safety codes.
C.I.P. Supervisor
  • Develops and manages capital project database
  • Develops design specifications with architects, engineers and planners prior to project approval and scheduling.
  • Contributes data and costs to develop a capital budget.
  • Provides training to Operations employees on systems and equipment.
  • Consults with Center staff on technical issues.
  • Supports events when technical expertise is required.
  • Supports Convention Center in emergency situations that are technical in nature.
  • Provides support and technical expertise in energy conservation programs.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Construction, Business Administration or other closely related field and five years of experience in convention center or arena environment, hospitality industry, facility or event operations management, facilities management or construction management, to include two years experience in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.

Based on area of assignment:
State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Journeyman Electrician. Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
