RIGGER TECHNICIAN

General Functions
  

This key position is a skilled technical role that prepares convention facilities for trade shows, conventions, and other events at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). This role works at heights with and without the use of lift equipment to suspend banners, signs, fixtures, lighting, and other objects via provided rigging points or structural steel.

Work is performed with some independence under the supervision of the Rigging Section Supervisor or designee. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Performs rigging work, which includes the suspension and attachment of items to the facility, some lightweight, some very elaborate and heavy.
  • Interprets plans and blueprints, calculates rigging bridles and weights.
  • Compiles billing information.
  • Interacts with clients regarding labor and equipment needs and “on site” billing issues.
  • Directs, oversees, and trains Prime Time Riggers.
  • Ensures all safety procedures and OCCC policies are followed.
  • Maintains shop and rigging equipment inventory and repairs/replaces when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in live show production, trade show or exhibitor rigging, which includes climbing structural steel, operating aerial equipment and electric chain hoists, reading rigging plots and calculating bridles and weights. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

 
Preferences
  

Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
