General Functions
   Responsible for assisting the Executive Director and Deputy Directors in planning, coordinating, leading, and directing operations for the Convention Center. Provides leadership and supervision to the professional, technical, administrative and collective bargaining unit staff involved in a variety of tasks associated with Facility Operations and Event Services. Provides high-level professional support to ensure the most effective and efficient operations.

Work is performed with independence and reports to the Convention Center Executive Director.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
   Based on area of assignment duties may vary:
  • Plans, manages, and monitors activities of staff. Staff is responsible for performing Facility Operation, Building System, Event Services and Security functions.
  • Staff responsibilities include life safety, engineering, maintenance, building cleaning, HVAC, capital improvement projects, rigging, event management, exhibitor services, set-up/take down, electrical, water, gas, steam, air for exhibitors, show managers, and patrons.
  • Reviews and approves purchase requisitions for the acquisition of materials required for the timely completion of projects, analyzes specifications, reviews prices, meets with sale representatives and verify equipment availability.
  • Assists in the day-to-day management of the OCCC. Coordinates and implements operating procedures for area of responsibility.
  • Establishes and communicates policies and procedures for the safe operation of the Convention Center to staff, tradeshow and meeting clients and service partners.
  • Participates in convention industry organizations/associations to keep abreast of trends that impact the Convention Center.
  • Conducts research and studies on the Convention Center organization and operations. Prepares reports with recommendations on best practices. Develops workflow systems to eliminate redundancy and expedite results.
  • Fosters a culture of efficient operations and a positive learning environment for employees.
  • Assesses skills and abilities of key staff in order to develop a thorough and evolving succession plan.
  • Develops and monitors the budget to be consistent with County and Department objectives including necessary expenditures for existing and projected building renovations and improvements, make recommendations for major projects and forecasts of equipment and staff requirements.
  • Responsible for various personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training, employee development, performance appraisals and related activities.
  • Assumes duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Director in his/her absence.
  • Meets and exemplifies the Center of Hospitality (CoH) standards.
  • Perform other duties of a comparable level as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Construction, Public Administration or closely related field and six years of progressively responsible experience in the operation of a large facility, to include four years of supervisory experience.

A Master's degree in specified areas can substitute for two years of the required experience.
