STOCK CLERK

General Functions
   Performs specialized stores work in the operation of a supply activity.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This is responsible stores work receiving and issuing materials, supplies, tools and equipment.

An employee assigned to a position in this class of work is responsible for the requisition, storage, distribution and record keeping operations of a storeroom having a variety of materials, parts and tools, or a specialized storeroom requiring the application of limited technical knowledge and terminology of the use and application of items and materials handled.

General instructions and written procedures are available, but employees in this class are responsible for applying store-keeping methods to work problems and record maintenance.

A supervisor who inspects inventory and stock records and condition of stock makes occasional reviews of work.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Receives, unpacks and stores equipment, goods and supplies.
  • Issues and makes delivery of equipment, goods and supplies periodically from large and varied stock.
  • Check incoming supplies against invoices or purchase orders and files requisitions or forwards to proper location.
  • Check quantity, quality and condition of goods received for conformity to purchase order specifications.
  • Prepares supplies and other materials for shipment.
  • Keeps perpetual inventory and store records involving a moderately large and varied stock of items for stock ordering purposes.
  • Make estimates of stock needs.
  • Consults with supervisor as to changes in inventory levels.
  • Makes placement purchases in accordance with prescribed authority.
  • Stocks, pulls, load, and periodically make deliveries of supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school graduate or equivalent and six months of general stock work experience.

May be required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver’s License for the type of equipment operated.
