General Functions
  

This key position performs semi-skilled work operating medium to heavy sized automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment to support maintenance, repair, and construction projects. The incumbent performs increasingly skilled equipment operation, safety inspections, and maintenance while ensuring safe, efficient, and effective equipment use.

Work is performed under the supervision of a designated supervisor or manager. Performance is reviewed through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Operates tractor mower, flatbed truck, pneumatic hammer, self-propelled concrete saw, single-axle truck, pulverize mixers, six-inch and larger pumps, and buses (up to 44 passengers).
  • Performs maintenance and construction duties in highway, utility, or other assigned areas.
  • Operates tractor mower to perform landscape or right-of-way maintenance.
  • Operates pneumatic hammer or concrete saw to perform highway maintenance and construction duties.
  • Drives flatbed truck hauling construction materials or equipment.
  • Drives dump truck to deliver or remove materials.
  • Performs routine safety inspection of assigned equipment.
  • Performs minor maintenance duties to check oil, fuel, water and air as necessary, cleans and washes equipment.
  • May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
  • Participates in general labor duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Two (2) years of experience in the operation of automotive, construction, or maintenance equipment, or completion of an Orange County department approved training program and one (1) year of experience. In lieu of the stated experience requirements, additional relevant education may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Depending on area of assignment, possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License; or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
