General Functions |
|
This key position is an entry level role that works operating light to medium sized automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment to support operational and maintenance activities. The incumbent performs routine equipment operation, safety inspections, and basic maintenance while ensuring safe, efficient, and effective equipment use.
Work is performed under the supervision of a designated supervisor or manager. Performance is reviewed through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Operates automotive equipment, small equipment and hand tools such as light truck, riding or power mower, bush hog, small tractor, pneumatic hammer, self-propelled concrete saw, single-axle truck/crew cab (less than 2 tons), six-inch and larger pumps, chainsaws, and weed-eaters.
- Performs maintenance and construction duties in highway, utility, or other assigned areas.
- Operates tractor mower to perform landscape or right-of-way maintenance.
- May be responsible for pickup and delivery of inventory and supplies.
- Performs routine safety inspection of assigned equipment.
- Performs minor maintenance duties to check oil, fuel, water and air as necessary, cleans and washes equipment.
- May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
- Participates in general labor duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Six (6) months of experience in the operation of automotive, construction, or maintenance equipment, or completion of an Orange County department approved training program. In lieu of the stated experience requirements, additional relevant education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Depending on the area of assignment, possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License; or obtain within six (6) months of hire. |
