ASSISTANT TO DIRECTOR, UTILITIES

General Functions
   Provides support to the Department Director and supervises, plans and directs the activities of the Utilities Administrative Support Office in order to ensure the effective and efficient provision of administrative support to the department.

Work is performed with independent judgement under the general supervision of the Utilities Director and is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Directs the activities of the Utilities Administrative Support Office's functional areas of responsibility consisting of Departmental Safety, Security and Building administration; Emergency Management; Project Management; and the supervision of various administrative and clerical staff.
  • Serves as liaison between Utilities Department and Risk Management working closely with RM regarding safety training, trends, accident investigations, and site inspections.
  • Serves as liaison between Utilities Department and Human Resources working closely with HR regarding policy changes, labor relations, disciplinary actions, and hiring/promotion of employees.
  • Reviews the work of staff for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations, offers advice and assistance, as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to all policies, procedures, codes, standards, laws, regulations, etc., which pertain to the relevant areas of responsibility.
  • Provides routine support to the Department Director in areas such as customer relations, media relations; preparation of presentations; facilitating communications internally and externally; coordinating departmental requirements requested by County Administration.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field and five years experience in general government administration, to include three years of supervisory experience.
