SPRAY TECHNICIAN

General Functions
  

This key position is responsible for a variety of duties related to the control of aquatic and terrestrial weeds along water conveyance and retention areas, ponds, lakes, canals, waterways, and right-of-way.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Chemical Spray Foreman and is reviewed through meetings, conferences, reports, and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Performs routine maintenance on application equipment, including oil and filter changes, lubrications, and seal replacements.
  • Mixes, handles, and sprays chemicals from trucks, airboats, and other equipment to control weed growth.
  • Takes water samples and returns them to the lab for testing.
  • Conducts field tests using hydro lab equipment.
  • Responds to fish kills, algae blooms, turbidity, dredge and fill, and related complaints.
  • Monitors shoreline areas for permit compliance and reports discrepancies.
  • Transports and operates application equipment, tractors, boom sprayers, and other mechanical tools for athletic turf.
  • Manages athletic turf health at park properties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in outdoor maintenance and use of commercial landscape, tractors, or other medium to light duty equipment. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Restricted Use of Pesticide License (aquatic, right-of-way, or ornamental/turf) or obtain within the first six (6) months of hire.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License or obtain within six (6) months.
