DRAINWELL LEADER

General Functions
   Provides leadership to and participates with work crew in the operation and maintenance of County drainwells.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:

This is semi-skilled work in the inspection, cleaning and maintenance of the 120 drainwells in the County's primary water districts. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for making daily inspections of an assigned number of drainwells, determining their operating condition and directing and participating in any necessary cleaning and repair of these sites. Incumbent will provide leadership and training to work crew as needed and must function with a minimum of direct supervision. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Water Management Coordinator who dispatches daily and work orders and reviews work for achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Inspects County drainwells on private and public property to determine their operating capability, including reading well drilling specifications and verifying required pipe and ground conditions.
  • Directs and participates in necessary cleaning of debris cages and minor repairs, such as replacing pipe grates, patching concrete, etc.
  • Keeps Water Management Coordinator informed of drainwell condition reporting collapsed pipework and/or ground, and indicates need for redrilling or major repairs.
  • During flood situations or other emergency weather conditions, cap off inoperable drainwells to prevent back-up and potential flooding.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from high school or equivalent combined with two years experience in the repair and maintenance of drainwells, or four years experience performing similar functions, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
