COUNTY SURVEYOR

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   This position is responsible for performing professional land surveying activities including assisting in the planning, scheduling and directing of all survey activities in the County, assisting in planning, scheduling and directing right-of-way engineering activities and performing other comparable level land surveying work.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Engineering Manager and is reviewed through conferences and reports for the achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Maintains the County horizontal and vertical datum in compliance with Chapter 5J-17, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
  • Manages the County Survey Section including field crews.
  • Reviews plats for compliance with Chapter 5J-17, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
  • Provides survey resources for County right-of-way acquisition, including eminent domain cases. Provides expert testimony in litigation cases representing the County.
  • Provides survey support for Public Works Engineering Capital Improvement Projects including, but not be limited to: preparation of legal descriptions and sketches of description, right-of-way maps, and boundary and topographic surveys.
  • Provides survey support for other County Departments, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Registration by the Florida State Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PS&M) and three years of post-licensure land survey experience.
