ASSISTANT MANAGER, DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERING

General Functions
   Responsible for assisting the Division Manager/County Engineer in planning, coordinating, leading, and directing the development and capital programs for the Public Works Department. Provides leadership and supervision to the professional, technical, and administrative staff involved in a variety of tasks associated with Development Engineering. Provides high-level professional support.

Work is performed with independence and initiative under the general supervision of the Development Engineering Manager and is reviewed on a regular basis through results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Conducts meetings with development representatives to review projects plans and to provide interpretations of County regulations and ensure development plans are in compliance with County standards, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Assist in the management of plan reviews ensuring compliance with rules and regulations. Reviews request for waivers from regulations, right-of-way utilization, underground utility and excavation/fill permit applications.
  • Provides guidance to staff and interprets ordinances
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes, construction trends and technologies, participates in technical/professional society activities, and makes public presentations.
  • Serves as a non-voting member on the County Development Review Committee and serves on the committee in the absence of the Development Engineering Manager.
  • Assist in the management of Division personnel matters to include hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities. Administers adequate training programs for Divisional employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering or closely related field and five years of experience in land development, capital improvement projects, construction, drainage, infrastructure maintenance and operation activities, or transportation and traffic engineering, to include two years of engineering supervisory experience.

Must possess and maintain registration as a Professional Engineer at the time of hire or obtain a State of Florida Professional Engineer registration within six months of hire.
 
Preferences
   Master's degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
