HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION SURVEYOR

General Functions
   Performs professional land surveying and contract oversight work in the Division of Public Works in support of those duties performed by the Division Manager of Highway Construction.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:

An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for performing professional land surveying work including assisting in planning, scheduling and directing right-of-way engineering activities for the highway construction program.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Manager, Division of Highway Construction, and is evaluated for results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Certifies right-of-way staking for land acquisition in the Highway Construction program.
  • Coordinates the preparation of legal descriptions for use in individual ownerships and subdivisions and to define areas of taking and the remainder.
  • Supervises the preparation of legal descriptions for use in legal instruments of conveyance of real property.
  • Assists in the preparation of right-of-way maps showing the individual ownerships and subdivisions and defining areas of taking and the remainder.
  • Provides expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Supervises the preparation of exhibits for use in condemnation of real property.
  • Coordinates boundary studies and other special surveys as required.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of performance for contractors and consultants.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating daily activities and work assignments.
  • Performs other related work as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Registration by the Florida State Board of Land Surveyors as a registered land surveyor.
