ASSISTANT MANAGER, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

General Functions
   Assists in the management and supervision of operations of Orange County's Environmental Protection Division and ensures the highest level of service is provided to the County and it's citizens.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Provides administrative assistance to the Division Manager.
  • Serves as Division Manager in his/her absence.
  • Responds to and resolves internal and external concerns/complaints.
  • Assists in Division personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities.
  • Assists in the administrative direction for the Division, including budget development, procedures, grant administration and compliance.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on all facets of the Division's operations, oversees and develops operational guidelines within the Division.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, environmental law or natural sciences or a related field and seven years of environmental protection experience, to include three years in a supervisory role. A Master's degree may be substituted for two years of related experience.

Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Experience in conducting field investigations and report writing. Experience in providing written and verbal testimony/evidence/reports to be used in conjunction with enforcement action.

Experience in public speaking/negotiating/mediating and experience in administration to include budgeting, contract and personnel administration.
