HOUSING QUALITY STANDARDS INSPECTOR

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   The Housing Quality Standards Inspector is responsible for determining compliance with housing quality standards for a variety of federally funded units, including Section 8 Voucher program units, Shelter Plus Care units, VASH units, HOME TBRA units, and HOME multifamily projects.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Program Development Supervisor, and performance is reviewed through reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Evaluates housing units for compliance with to Housing Quality Standards.
  • Inspects permanent fixtures of dwelling units for compliance with Housing Quality Standards.
  • Inspects for general health and safety hazards of dwelling units.
  • Responsible to coordinate scheduling of appointments.
  • Issue verbal and written communication to report and request correction of violations, with subsequent review of violations to ensure corrective actions.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, maintains records of all inspections.
  • Conducts rent comparability studies of Orlando rental market in the determination of rent reasonableness.
  • Utilize electronic tools (Digital photography, IPAD) for the purpose of evidence in reports.
  • Coordinates and follow up with the Inspections Team to measure timely response and delivery of inspections for a variety of federally funded housing units.
  • Attend and present information at informal tenant hearings during terminations for HQS violations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school diploma or equivalent and five years of industry related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
 
Preferences
   Must possess a valid Florida Drivers license and provide own transportation.

Must be able to complete online certification on Housing Quality Standards
