HOUSING ASSISTANT

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Responsible for assisting in administrative work for a variety of federal, state and local affordable housing programs to include the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), Housing Rehabilitation program, and the Down Payment Assistance Program. This position is responsible for assisting in determining eligibility across a wide spectrum of housing programs. An employee assigned to this position will provide technical assistance to other sections within the division, non-profit organizations, landlords, realtors and lenders.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Program Manager and performance is evaluated through observations for accuracy, efficiency and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Interviews and /or reviews potential client's applications for eligibility of various housing programs.
  • Calculates household income based on the criteria established for each program.
  • Reviews credit reports, home inspections, loan closing documents, appraisals and other loan documents.
  • Prepares County note and deeds for recording according to program guidelines.
  • Reviews and processes loan pay-offs, loan subordination requests and prepares satisfaction of liens.
  • Responsible for case management files and appointment schedule.
  • Interprets and communicates program guidelines to clients.
  • Responds to customer inquiries, as well as works with landlords, realtors, lenders, developers and title companies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a Social Science, Public or Business Administration, Finance, Urban Planning, and two years of experience in real estate, case management, interviewing, assessment or administrative experience in the area of social services or public assistance; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
