NUTRITION COORDINATOR

General Functions
  

This position designs and implements nutrition services that meet the nutritional needs of each child, including children with special dietary needs and children with disabilities. Provides education and training to parents and direct service staff in support of health program services and maintains communication and involvement with community partners. Works with children and families to achieve overall nutritional wellness goals. Serves as a community liaison to build and establish community partnerships. This is specialized work providing training and counseling services to economically disadvantaged children and their families.

Work is performed under the supervision of a Sr. Program Manager and is reviewed through conferences, records, file reviews, report and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Serves as the lead for the coordination and implementation of all nutrition services for children and families enrolled in the Head Start Program.
  • Supervises Assistant Nutrition Coordinators, Cooks and Food Service Assistants.
  • Assesses children’s nutritional health records through nutrition screening instrument to ensure that recommended treatment and preventative services are being provided and follow-up plans are being initiated.
  • Trains staff in the administration and interpretation of the screening instrument. Follows up on screenings indicating nutritional risk and provide consultation and training to families.
  • Develops appropriate systems and supports to identify families who are not meeting their nutritional needs to secure consistent, healthy meals that meet the needs of both children and families.
  • Reviews, follow up, and documents on all Clinical Nutrition Referrals for the children. Meeting with and counseling parents as needed. Reviews files as it relates to Nutrition Services. Documents findings on progress notes.
  • Manages data, Licensure in CCFP Management Information Payment System and monitor ChildPlus data entry system.
  • Reviews and adhere to USDA/CCFP Funding Source Claims.
  • Serves as a liaison between approved CCFP caterers and Orange County Public Schools.
  • Prepares and submits monthly Clinical Nutrition Services Reports and attends meetings as required.
  • Provides Nutrition workshops to parents of Head Start children.
  • Works collaboratively to coordinate Health Service Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Develops community partnerships that support the health and well-being of the children and families served.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Nutrition Sciences or closely related degree; and two (2) years in an early childhood education setting with emphasis on health/nutrition. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Certification with the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board or similar nutrition accreditation.
ServSafe Food Safety.

 
Preferences
  

Head Start/ Early Head Start experience.
Knowledge of the Child Care Food Program Regulations.
Safety Manager Certification.
