MISCONDUCT INVESTIGATION SUPERVISOR

General Functions
   This is a highly responsible investigative and supervisory work. Work involves responsibility for the direct supervision of the daily operations in the Misconduct Investigation unit of the Professional Standards section. Conducts and coordinates investigations of alleged or suspected violations of state, federal or local laws, ordinances or misconduct of Orange County employees relative to established County and departmental policies and procedures.

Work is performed utilizing independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned work. The position is under the general supervision of the Division Manager and is reviewed through conferences, records, reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Supervises the day-to-day Misconduct unit operations. Coordinates case loads, activities, and provides feedback to investigative and support staff. Reviews the work product quality of the investigators and ensures investigations timeliness. Communicates results to Division Manager and Orange County Departments.
  • Conducts serious or high priority investigations. Responsible for meeting with employees who wish to file a complaint. Analyzes complaints to identify critical issues. Researches current policies, procedures, laws, and court findings.
  • Refers Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaints to an outside defense firm and acts as a liaison with the assigned attorney to provide or obtain information as needed in the preparation of position papers.
  • Represents the Division and Manager at various meetings, court proceedings, and projects within and outside the County.
  • Provides advanced technical assistance to investigative staff in both intake and investigative activities. Responsible for performance reviews of direct reporting staff, discipline and leave approval.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Risk Management, Social Science or related field and four years of responsible investigative experience, to include one year of supervisory experience.

Must not have been convicted of or plead no contest to a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude. An extensive background investigation will be conducted to include polygraph examination. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Excellent report writing, editing, and computer skills are required.
 
Preferences
   Experience in internal affairs, EEO, sexual harassment, fraud, or Title VII investigations.
