CORRECTIONAL INVESTIGATOR II

General Functions
  

This position conducts investigations and inquiries into alleged acts of misconduct of Corrections Department employees relative to established County and Departmental policies and procedures.

Work is performed with limited independence under the general guidance of the Sr. Investigator. Performance is reviewed through conferences, records, reports, and results.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Conducts investigations and inquiries deemed complex in nature inside low, medium, and high security detention facilities to determine whether the allegations in a complaint occurred by interviewing incarcerated inmates, offenders and employees.
  • Responsible for custody and control of inmates to gather evidence and facts related to alleged violations of Corrections Department policies and procedures.
  • Assists with of Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) incident reviews and investigations which involves interacting with inmates.
  • Interviews complainants, witnesses and employees who are responsible for providing care, custody and control of inmates to gather evidence and facts related to alleged violations of Corrections Department policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes complaints to identify critical issues and develops an investigative plan to determine appropriate course of action to conduct the investigation or inquiry.
  • Works with and has direct contact with incarcerated inmates, and offenders who are under community supervision.
  • Monitors mail and telephone calls of inmates, alleged to be engaging in criminal activities while incarcerated in custody.
  • Presents written findings in clear concise and impartial reports.
  • Participates in the employment background and neighborhood screening process of potential new hires.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology or a related field and two (2) years of responsible related investigative experience in the Criminal Justice field.

Or

Associate's degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution and four years of responsible related investigative experience in the Criminal Justice field

Or

Four (4) years of experience as a Correctional Corporal at Orange County Government.

Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Correctional Officer certification within one year of employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's license.
