GARDEN LANDSCAPE TECHNICIAN

General Functions
  

This key position performs and supervises skilled work in landscaping and grounds maintenance, including oversight of volunteers and specialized equipment use.

Work is performed with independence under the general direction received from the assigned supervisor. Work is reviewed and evaluated for satisfactory performance.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Supervises Exploration Garden staff and volunteers.
  • Performs complex landscaping tasks of establishing, installing and maintaining landscape material, to include the proper pruning, preparation of beds for planting, removal of dead or diseased trees, shrubs and other plant material.
  • Manages irrigation, pest control, and (Material Safety Data Sheets) MSDS records.
  • Oversees garden installations and educational displays.
  • Establishes ongoing maintenance schedule for gardens, greenhouse, turf, landscape and natural areas.
  • Maintains and operates landscape equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of landscaping and grounds maintenance experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (FDACS) Pesticide Applicators License or obtain within six (6) months of hire.

 
Preferences
  

Associate degree in horticulture or related field.

Experience with public/private gardens, pest control, and irrigation.
