Tree Technician

This position oversees and performs specialized skilled and technical work in Park operations. Duties are determined by area of assignment. General direction is received from an assigned supervisor. Work is performed without close supervision, using judgment regarding related skills.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties will vary based on area of assignment

Irrigation Technician

  • Maintains irrigation systems throughout the Parks & Recreation Division.
  • Inspects projects for proper installation and coverage.
  • Directs/supervises staff while trouble shooting irrigation system problems.
  • Assigns work orders to irrigation staff.
  • Instructs staff in proper techniques and use of tracking/locating equipment.
  • Orders materials for projects.

    • Tree Technician

  • Removal of dangerous/hazardous trees throughout the Parks & Recreation Division.
  • Supervises Parks Specialist duties.
  • Inspects tree conditions throughout Parks.
  • Assists with coordinating contractual tree care at Parks.
  • Assists supervision in planning Reforestation program.
  • Maintains tree care equipment.

    Minimum Qualifications
      

    Irrigation Technician:

    Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of progressively responsible experience in irrigation systems and controllers.

    The ability to maintain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers License for the type of equipment operated upon request of Orange County.

    Tree Technician:

    Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of progressively responsible experience in tree removal and tree care.

    Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture Certificate as a Certified Arborist or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

    Valid Florida Commercial Drivers License for the type of equipment operated
     
    Preferences
      

    Irrigation Technician:

    Working knowledge of trenching equipment

    Licensed as an Irrigation Contractor in the state of Florida

    Tree Technician:

    Member of Orange County Parks Safety Committee
