PARKS SPECIALIST

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   This position performs semi-skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of park facilities and renders services to park users and patrons of the park facilities. All work is done according to standardized and prescribed policies, rules and regulations, laws and ordinances.

Work is performed independently and under the general direction of a supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation and review of the facility/work performed.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Utilizes specialized equipment to perform landscaping and grounds maintenance duties for multiple parks that may include athletic turf, diamond sport fields, trails, aquatic, etc.
  • Performs basic construction and repair duties for maintenance of park.
  • Repairs and manages minor installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Enforces park usage rules, laws and ordinances on BCC public properties.
  • Responsible for citizen interaction on a daily basis; works in contact with all ages and abilities including youth and elderly.
  • Operates specialized light weight vehicles, trucks, trailers, mowers, tractors, and equipment and performs preventative maintenance on equipment depending on area of assignment. Consults with specific trades' employees or supervisors on specific maintenance and repair problems.
  • Responsible for keeping the facility clean and free from trash by performing custodial tasks.
  • Setup and removal of tables, chairs, stages, audio/visual and other event and rental equipment.
  • Assists park patrons.
  • Performs administrative duties as necessary.
  • Responsible for using parks proprietary software and computer systems to collect revenue and rent/register for parks pavilions/rooms and services.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations on park maintenance related concerns, and improvements to enhance the citizen park experience.
  • Unlocks and Closes multiple park sites and secures against vandalism and afterhours entry.
  • Supervises volunteers and casual workforce.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from High School or equivalent.

Must be able to understand, carry out, and document written and oral instructions.

Ability to perform job duties under adverse weather conditions.

Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's license.

Must be able and available to work evenings and weekends independently.
 
Preferences
   One cumulative year of experience in any combination of the following areas: grounds maintenance, building maintenance/repair, janitorial/custodial, construction, mechanical or electrical trades or other service industry work.
