General Functions
   This position is responsible for assisting with the overall management of the Emergency Communications Division of the Fire Department. Manages, assigns, reviews and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Emergency Communications Division and ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Work is performed with independence, and reviewed for effective management of the division and its services. This is an appointed position and reports directly to the Fire Chief.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Supervises the operation of Emergency Communication Division.
  • Provides management oversight of computer aided dispatch systems that route emergency responders.
  • Develops and administers policies and procedures for the Emergency Communications Center operation and E-911.
  • Develops, implements and monitors management information systems within the Emergency Communications Division. Develops and implements management programs, procedures and related operational forms.
  • Reviews and verifies logs, reports and incidents submitted by each communication shift.
  • Examines existing communication systems for efficiency and recommends changes to increase productivity and cost efficiency.
  • Prepares and manages division annual budget and reports to the Fire Chief.
  • Prepares monthly and annual reports of the activities of the Emergency Communications Division for submission to the Fire Chief.
  • Liaison with other counties and local agencies to develop best policies and practices for County Enhanced 911 systems. Ensures compliance of dispatch and response procedures based on the regulatory and technical changes.
  • Provides recommendation to the Division Chief for hiring, termination, performance evaluations, discipline of staff.
  • Performs other related work as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications or closely related field, and ten years experience in a high volume public safety emergency communication center to include three years of emergency communications supervisory experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
