ATTORNEY I

General Functions
   Prepares memoranda for review by and use of senior legal staff. Prepares memoranda for direct submission to Division Managers on routine legal matters or matters not involving broad policy ramifications.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Prepares memoranda involving analysis, legal research and application of basic legal principles to known operative facts.
  • Drafts ordinances, resolutions, and administrative regulations for review by senior legal staff. Drafting is accomplished after necessary legal research and conferences with senior legal staff and division level County staff.
  • Reviews and/or prepares transaction documents relating to routine transactions or transactions which have low financial exposure to County. Senior legal staff reviews documents in legal areas with which Attorney has little familiarity.
  • Provides office legal counsel to division level County personnel through conference and legal research.
  • Provides litigation support to senior legal staff by preparation of pleadings, motions, interrogatories, discovery, and trial memoranda; investigates factual situations for trial and reports results to senior legal staff.
  • Prepares required pleadings, motions, interrogatories, discovery, and trial memoranda; litigates matters involving low financial exposure to County matters which are not sensitive and/or do not involve broad policy implications.
  • Attends meetings of County Advisory Board, County and State regulatory agencies, and Board of County Commissioners for purpose of monitoring and/or providing legal advice; provides legal research and memoranda incident to such attendance.
  • Directs secretarial staff in matters of applicable office policy and practice, and monitors quality of work.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from an accredited law school and possession of a Florida license to practice law.
