SENIOR PARALEGAL

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Paraprofessional work providing legal assistance and legal support services to the attorneys in the County Attorney’s Office for Orange County. Supervise and coordinate work assignments of support staff involved in researching laws, investigating facts, and preparing documents to assist attorneys. Considerable discretion and independent judgment is exercised in conducting legal research and preparation of legal memoranda, opinions, pleadings, legislative documents, leases and contracts.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of an Attorney and is reviewed through meetings, conferences, reports, and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Performs supervisory and administrative functions for the paralegals.
  • Supervises and directs clerical personnel.
  • Conducts factual investigations affiliated with particular assignments.
  • Assists with complex legal matters.
  • Performs legal research and drafts documents requested by attorneys.
  • Drafts legal memoranda, contracts, agreements, general correspondence, reports and legal arguments.
  • Analyzes data and compiles information requested by attorney.
  • Assists attorneys in all legal work.
  • Performs legal research regarding inquires put forth to the County Attorney’s Office.
  • Reviews complex abstracts, contracts and various legal documents to ascertain their accuracy and conformance with established policies and standards.
  • Monitors, oversees and coordinates production of documents and the progress of assigned matters.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Paralegal studies and successful completion of the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination of the National Association of Legal Assistants; or High School and at least seven years of paralegal experience.

Must possess solid verbal and written communication skills Intermediate level proficiency in word processing and Internet research.
