DEPUTY EMS MEDICAL DIRECTOR

General Functions
   Responsible for all activities relating to the operation of the Orange County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System and includes protocol development, quality assurance activities, policy development, disaster response and education as directed by the EMS Medical Director. The position requires significant research on proper and effective patient emergency care and is responsible for oversight of the EMS Office staff.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Provides direct and indirect supervision of firefighters, EMT's and paramedics during care of patients on the scene of medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and incidents involving hazardous materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
  • Assists the Medical Director in oversight of the Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) Program for the Orange County EMS System and its representative agencies.
  • Develops and updates medically appropriate protocols and procedures for use by the Orange County EMS System. Provides recommendations pertaining to continuing education credits for Orange County EMS providers.
  • Evaluates and monitors the medical performance of the Orange County EMS System, its representative agencies, and individual care providers by way of data collection and analysis.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of the EMS Office staff.
  • Assists the EMS Medical Director in planning for and responding to disasters. Functions as a lead of the Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8).
  • Participates in professional and regulatory organizations to acquire pertinent knowledge and insight on issues and advances in the field of emergency care.
  • Conducts research and administrative studies and makes recommendations for changes to EMS patient care parameters.
  • Responds to and resolves citizen complaints relating to the Orange County EMS System.
  • Perform other duties of a comparable level as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from a school of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

Current medical license issued by the Florida Department of Health.

Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine residency program.

Completion of a recognized physician fellowship in Emergency Medical Services.
