CONSULTANT PHARMACIST

General Functions
   The Consultant Pharmacist is assigned to Orange County Corrections to provide oversight in all pharmaceutical services including medication ordering, receipt, packaging, labeling, distribution, and storage. The Consultant Pharmacist will supervise the staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Work is performed under the direction of the Pharmacist Director. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Complies with all State and Federal Regulations regarding licensure and Pharmacy practice.
  • Works with the Pharmacy Director to ensure that inventories, security procedures, training, protocol development, record keeping, packaging, labeling, and dispensing adhere to laws and regulations of the Board of Pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Supervises the packaging of drugs and checks the packaging procedure and product upon completion.
  • Supervises the data entry of medication orders by pharmacy technicians, verifying accuracy upon completion.
  • Consults with medical providers as necessary regarding prescriptions.
  • Administers performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, leave request approvals or denials, and time card review and sign-off.
  • Reviews and inspect medication storage areas, including nursing stations and medication carts, at least quarterly for irregularities and for expired pharmaceuticals and document inspections.
  • Maintains a perpetual inventory of controlled drugs.
  • Provides education to health care and pertinent non-health-care personnel with respect to medication use.
  • Participates in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meetings, presenting the Consultant Pharmacist inspection report.
  • Participates in Corrections Health Services meetings as necessary.
  • Provides drug information to clinical staff upon request.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Must be a licensed and registered Pharmacist in the State of Florida by date of hire.

Must be a licensed Consultant Pharmacist in the State of Florida by date of hire.
 
Preferences
   Work experience in a hospital, clinic, or retail pharmacy.
