General Functions |
|
This key position performs skilled fieldwork involving the application of approved chemical treatments and other methods to control immature and adult mosquitoes throughout Orange County. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, applying pesticides, and maintaining records in accordance with regulatory standards.
Work requires independent judgement and is performed under the general supervision of the Mosquito Control Manager and requires fieldwork in diverse environments. Work is reviewed through inspection of daily activity records submitted and direct observation. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Monitors and inspects natural and manmade mosquito breeding habitats.
- Stores, mixes and applies pesticides and larvicides in compliance with state and federal regulations using appropriate safety equipment.
- Maintains detailed daily records of treatment areas, chemicals used, and mileage.
- Operates motorized spray equipment and vehicles to perform mosquito control treatments.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspections on application equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Assists in identifying mosquito species in various life stages and selecting appropriate control measures.
- Responds to public requests for mosquito control services and provides information on mosquito prevention.
- Conducts field inspections, sets and collects data from mosquito traps.
- Participates in the division's Sentinel Chicken program and other public health initiatives.
- Adheres to all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in mosquito control, pest control, aquatic weed control, grounds maintenance, construction, or other related outdoor work. An equivalent combination of relevant education or experience may be substituted.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must possess and maintain Florida Public Health Pest Control License issued by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Successful completion of the division’s technical training program is required within twelve (12) months of employment. |

Preferences |
|
Experience with pesticide application and familiarity with mosquito habitats.
Ability to identify mosquito species and understand mosquito-borne disease prevention.
