MOSQUITO CONTROL SPECIALIST I

General Functions
  

This key position performs entry-level skilled fieldwork in the application of approved chemicals to control immature and adult mosquitoes throughout Orange County. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, applying pesticides, and maintaining records in accordance with regulatory standards.  

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Mosquito Control Manager and is reviewed through inspection of records submitted and direct observation.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Stores, mixes and applies pesticides and larvicides in compliance with state and federal regulations using appropriate safety equipment.
  • Maintains daily work activity records, including documenting pesticide usage.
  • Conducts field inspections to detect the presence of mosquitoes, sets and retrieves mosquito traps.
  • Learns to identify various mosquito species in both the adult and larval stages.
  • Keeps abreast of advancements in the mosquito control field through self-study and professional training courses
  • Performs basic calculations to determine the size of the area to be sprayed and the amount of pesticide to apply.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent. An equivalent combination of relevant education or experience may be substituted.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Must obtain a Florida Public Health Pest Control License issued by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within six (6) months of hire.

 
Preferences
  

One (1) year of experience in any combination of the following areas: pesticide application, grounds maintenance, construction, or other related outdoor occupation.

Must be able to understand, carry out, and document written and oral instructions.
