FUEL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

General Functions
   Performs skilled maintenance and repair work on the Orange County automated fuel dispensing system and related equipment.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:

This is skilled technical work. An employee assigned to a classification allocated to this class of work is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the Orange County automated fuel dispensing system base station and all satellite stations on a seven-days-a-week basis.

The employee operates with considerable independence and must exercise good judgment in scheduling work and seeking technical assistance.

General supervision is received from a designated supervisor and work is reviewed through reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions that occur to the computerized fuel terminals and related equipment.
  • Replaces printed circuit boards, repair module components, etc.
  • Removes and replaces computer hardware and software components as necessary to keep system on-line.
  • Diagnoses malfunction printout codes transmitted by computer messages and makes appropriate repair to keep system on-line.
  • Understands, receives and transmits computer messages concerning fuel system reports and all pertinent data necessary to keep system on-line.
  • Understands and is conversant with Series I, IBM computer in order to communicate with IBM and Orange County Data Center technicians to solve related problems.
  • Understands and is conversant with telephone communication data line systems to solve malfunctions.
  • Regulates, reconciles and orders all fuels for the automated fuel system.
  • Orders and stocks spare parts, materials and equipment necessary to maintain the on-line system.
  • Maintains and regulates oil, grease and lubricants in same manner as fuels.
  • Maintains automated canned oil dispensing machine.
  • Maintains gasoline/diesel dispensers, submerged pumps, underground fuel tanks and related equipment.
  • Responds to service calls on twenty-four hour, seven-day week basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduated from a High School or equivalent and three years of progressively responsible experience in electrical, pumping or telecommunications equipment maintenance and repair.
 
Preferences
   Obtain certification from a major automated fuel systems manufacturer as a maintenance technician within 18 months of employment.
