DEPARTMENTAL SYSTEMS ANALYST

General Functions
   Performs responsible technical work applying skills in preparing research procedures and monitoring the department's data system.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:

This is a professional/technical position requiring a basic knowledge of business practices and procedures, computer programming and data processing fundamentals. An employee in a position assigned to this classification performs a full range of professional research and technical work. Analytical ability, creativity, independent actions and decisions are demonstrated to resolve complex technical problems and to prescribe subsequent courses of action. Work is reviewed as the project progresses and upon completion. The Departmental Systems Analyst may be accountable for the quality, timeliness, accuracy, and planning of the work.

Performance is evaluated based on production of work, demonstrated technical and professional skills and the achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Operates the department's data system.
  • Prepares research, projects and programs for the department.
  • Represents the department in computer architecture for application systems.
  • Prepares specifications for departmental capital and operating equipment.
  • Designs and implements procedures for monitoring and controlling data integrity and security.
  • Analyzes the department's business requirements and develops, evaluates and recommends alternative solutions.
  • Proposes new systems, assists in the design and implementations of new systems.
  • Reviews and evaluates requests for modifications to existing systems.
  • Performs related professional and technical work as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Public Administration, Data Processing or a closely related field; or graduation from high school or equivalent and eight years of experience as an analyst or supervisor responsible for reviews of analytical work.
