SERVICE WRITER

General Functions
  

This key position completes and processes work orders for repair and preventive maintenance to County vehicles.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of a Foreman. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports, and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Prepares work orders for unscheduled maintenance on County vehicles and equipment; coordinates scheduling with the Shop Foreman.
  • Maintains logs and filing systems as required.
  • Assists in operating the service desk.
  • Notifies appropriate divisions upon completion of maintenance work.
  • Operates a four-way radio and dispatches service personnel to appropriate locations.
  • Processes requisitions for specialized repairs performed outside the shop.
  • Issues tools as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in equipment service writing. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

 
Preferences
  

Experience using fleet maintenance software or similar work order tracking systems.
