General Functions |
|
This key position performs skilled machinist and metal work in the fabrication, repair, and modification of major vehicle assemblies and specialized machinery. Develops specifications from general description, schematic or sketch to manufacture needed part or specialty tool. Designs fixtures, tooling and experiential parts.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports, and results achieved. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Performs a variety of machine shop operations such as filing, sawing, layout, drilling, taping, reaming, turning, milling, boring, lapping and threading.
- Calculates and set controls to regulate speed, feed, depth and angle of fabricated part according to guidelines and procedures.
- Sets up work on machines and selects correct cutting tools for each type of machine.
- Checks dimensions of parts with micrometer, calipers, gauges and rulers.
- Shapes metal parts using lathes, shapers, grinders, planers, drill presses and similar equipment.
- Cleans, oils and performs regular maintenance of shop equipment and sharpens cutting tools.
- Provides technical and functional guidance; keeps records of repair services; researches technical bulletins and equipment repair literature; follows oral and written instructions accurately and timely.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in the automotive machinist repair field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Must possess adequate tools to perform assigned duties. |
