MASTER ELECTRICIAN

General Functions
   Performs highly skilled technical and supervisory work at the master level performing the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of complex electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Work is performed in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade.

Work performed requires independent judgment under the general direction of a higher level supervisor. Work is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Maintains electrical systems and equipment such as emergency generators, distribution system breakers, electrical panels, motors and starters, surge suppressors, variable frequent drives, automatic lighting systems, instrumentation and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Performs PLC upgrades via engineering review.
  • Liaison for contractors provides information and accompanies contractors to ensure required tasks are performed, performs quality assurance inspections as required.
  • Attends engineering meeting and reviews construction drawings to provide recommendations and propose changes.
  • Works with extensive 480 volt electrical distribution systems with 4,500 KW emergency power back up generators. Must use electronic test equipment for measuring equipment parameters, i.e., voltage, current, resistance and frequency meters, uses vibration and infrared sensing equipment for detection of equipment faults.
  • Document daily work, accounting for time, tasks and repairs completed, parts required and meaningful comments. Generates purchase request and project invoices.
  • Participates on work teams and supervises employees as needed to complete repairs, project work, upgrades and building support systems.
  • May be assigned duties in specialized areas such as a correctional environment, fully secured buildings or 25 story high-rise building.
  • Reads blueprints, drawings and technical instructions. May draw schematics to develop electrical specifications for construction and repair activities.
  • Responds to emergency calls to restore electrical services.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician
or
Six years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program and 2 years of technical electrical work experience
or
Eight years of technical electrical work experience

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire or promotion.

Based on area of assignment, must have the ability to perform in confined spaces and use safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements.
 
Preferences
   State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician

Familiar with and utilized the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards associated with motors and generators

Familiarity with local Orange County electrical codes
