FACILITIES MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

General Functions
   Performs technical and supervisory work in the overall maintenance of various County facilities.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This is supervisory work involving planning and directing maintenance crews engaged in the alteration, maintenance, repair and care of buildings, facilities and equipment.

Work involves responsibility for assisting in developing and maintaining a comprehensive and uniform maintenance program and for supervising crews engaged in work requiring the skill, ability, knowledge and dexterity of several trades utilized in the repair, maintenance and care of buildings and appurtenances. Work includes the preparation of manpower, materials and cost estimates for individual projects and requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.

Duties are performed under the general direction of a division manager or other designated supervisor who reviews the work through conferences, while in progress and upon completion of assignment.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Schedules, assigns, trains, supervises and reviews the work of crews of maintenance mechanics and other skilled and unskilled workers in the repair, renovation, maintenance and installation of equipment throughout various County facilities.
  • Participates with superiors in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of subordinates.
  • Conducts inspections of contract maintenance and submits maintenance budget requests.
  • Prepares cost estimates on the amounts and kinds of materials, supplies, equipment and labor needs of proposed projects; orders materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares reports and maintains work and time records.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school graduate or equivalent and five years of progressively responsible maintenance and repair experience, to include three years of directly related supervisory experience.
