HIPAA PRIVACY OFFICER

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Consults with all departments and divisions regarding Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Investigates, conducts risk assessments and files notification with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Work is performed with independence under the general supervision of the Health Services Manager or Department Director. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Oversees, directs, and delivers privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, medical and professional staff and applicable business associates.
  • Serves in a leadership role for the Privacy Oversight Committee's activities.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all County agreements to ensure that all privacy concerns, requirements and responsibilities are addressed.
  • Establishes and administers a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking action on all complaints concerning the County's privacy policies and procedures in coordination and collaboration with other similar functions and, when necessary, legal counsel.
  • Facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the County and related entities.
  • Works with personnel involved with any aspect of release of protected health information, to ensure full coordination and cooperation under the County's policies and procedures and legal requirements.
  • Cooperates with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights, other legal entities, and organization on officers in any compliance reviews or investigations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards, and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Human Services, Social Work, Health Sciences, Public Administration, Public Health and Health Care Administration or related field and five years of experience in healthcare administration, HIPAA compliance or closely related field.
 
Preferences
   Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a specified area of study or closely related field.

One of the following HIPAA privacy related certification: Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP), Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), Certified Information Privacy Professional-United States (CIPP-US)
