CHILDREN'S SERVICES COUNSELOR

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Provides counseling and case management services to clients of the division and their families. Responsible direct service work in residential and non-residential programs.

Work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Children's Services Counselor, Counseling Services Supervisor or a Youth & Family Services Program Manager and is reviewed through file reviews and service verifications, conferences, records, reports, observation, and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
   Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, and it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
  • Provides case management and counseling services to children and/or their families in home, group residential and/or office settings.
  • Serves as liaison and coordinates services within and between the division, courts, other agencies and practitioners for assigned cases.
  • Maintains case records in accordance with program and division policies and procedures.
  • Conducts client screening and intake processes
  • Develops and implements an appropriate case plan for clients including measurable goals in accordance with division policies and procedures.
  • May serve on an on-call rotation.
  • Initiates and/or participates in team staffing and case conferences for assigned cases.
  • May transport clients to appointments with other agencies and practitioners.
  • Prepares and submits reports and data as required. Performs other responsibilities required to provide the specific services of the assigned program.
  • May provide direction and supervision to paraprofessional and direct care staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications
       Bachelor's Degree in the social or behavioral sciences or a closely related field and one year of experience in social or human services.

    A Master's Degree in counseling, social or behavioral sciences or related field

    Youth & Family Services:
    May be required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license and provide own vehicle for job related duties.

    Must be able to demonstrate intermediate to advanced proficiency in word processing, preferably Microsoft Word, and email functions.
