DETENTION SERVICE OFFICER

General Functions
  
    Note: The following Job Code are covered under this job description:

    2883- Detention Service Officer -8

    Provides technical and clerical support to certified personnel in maintaining the control and security of all doors in detention areas, and observes the inmate's behavior while in cells and corridors; all duties are performed under the direction of certified personnel (Corrections Officers, Corporals, Sergeants, etc.).
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Maintains log of relevant activities.
  • Provides public with information relative to individuals incarcerated and/or facility policy and procedure.
  • Inventories tools of personnel entering the facility to work.
  • Receives and releases authorized property for inmates.
  • Issues keys to security staff.
  • Ensures data concerning inmates is accurately compiled, i.e., moves are annotated, counts are recorded, etc.
  • Operates computer terminal.
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of workstation.
  • Assists Corrections Officers in observing inmate behavior in cells, corridors, and courtrooms via video equipment.
  • Regulates and monitors alarm systems and video equipment.
  • As directed, assists certified personnel in controlling access to the facility by staff and visitors.
  • As directed by certified staff, will notify appropriate personnel in crisis situation.
  • At the supervisor's direction, may coordinate services with outside agencies, i.e., Fire/Rescue, Facilities Management, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Requires High School graduation or equivalent.

Must be able to work all shifts including weekends and holidays.

Must be able to work in a secured area.

Must successfully complete the required Department training program within established guidelines.
