SENIOR CORRECTIONS LPN - 12

General Functions
   Performs nursing care for inmates in corrections facilities. Responsible for dispensing medication and administering treatment to inmates at the direction of the clinic supervisor.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Utilizes technical training in phlebotomy and medical skills to perform assessment of inmates without supervision. Must be able to determine criticalness of conditions. Assists in supervision and evaluation of LPN1.
  • Dispenses medications as prescribed by staff physician. Accepts requests for non-prescription medications from inmates and dispenses these medications appropriately. Administers treatment as directed by the registered nurse or physician. Charts and records all treatments or medications given on inmate record. Monitors and records medical condition of inmates.
  • Must be able to respond to medical calls from facilities without a registered nurse present and work at multiple site locations as required. Accompanies physician on sick call.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as required (i.e., clean refrigerator, stock medications, etc.). Maintains appropriate records. Performs other duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school graduate or equivalent and four years experience as a LPN with two of those years in a correctional facility. EMT certification may count as one year of experience. Must be certified in phlebotomy and IV therapy..

Must possess and maintain a current Florida license as a LPN. Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, other County personnel, physicians, inmates, social workers, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence. Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under high stress when confronted with an emergency.

Physical Requirements Must be physically able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, balancing, etc. frequently. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately fifty pounds.
