MASTER CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

General Functions
   The following job codes are covered under this job description: 2731 – Non-Certified Correctional Officer: 2752 – Correctional Officer; 2755 – Master Correctional Officer

To ensure the health, safety and secure confinement of inmates in the County correctional facilities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Corrections Corporal or Sergeant.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Supervises inmates to prevent altercations, intimidation undesirable or illegal acts, intercedes when necessary, and to ensure the safety of the facility, other Correctional staff and the inmates. Maintains accurate count and current location of all inmates or Youthful Offenders assigned. Completes and maintains required records, logs and reports. Performs cell and body searches as required. Ensures safe, secure and orderly movement of inmates throughout the facility. Performs security and safety checks and adheres to facility security procedures.
  • Ensures, to the limit of authority possible, that inmate rights are observed-and that they are treated according to policy. Supervises inmate or Youthful Offender work crews. Acquires knowledge of all emergency plans and procedures and maintains emergency equipment.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school graduate or equivalent.

Must be at least 19 years of age and a United States citizen. Must not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude. Must possess Florida certification as a correctional officer according to Florida Statute 943.13 or obtain a correctional officer certification according to Florida Statue 943.131. Applicants who obtained their certification after 7/l/93 must also provide results of Florida Officer Certification examination indicating achievement of mastery level.

Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Depending on area of assignment – Must be able to work part-time, weekend’s only, 8-hour shifts, 10-hour shifts, and 12-hour shifts. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (i.e. Transportation Section, etc.).
