RISK MANAGEMENT ANALYST, CORRECTIONS SRK

General Functions
   This position assists with handling general liability claims and conducts Risk Management investigations into critical events involving inmates which may lead to potential litigation for the Corrections Department. The position analyzes contracts/policies and/or conducts risk assessment to identify loss exposure areas and/or develop training programs for such.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Monitors and coordinates the loss adjustment of general liability, property, and professional liability claims.
  • Assists in the analysis and measurement of risk exposures by researching operations of the department and/or ensuring physical inspections are successfully completed and/or conducts training and safety visits as necessary.
  • Conducts investigations and inquiries inside of low, medium and high-security detention facilities, to determine levels of risk.
  • Interviews inmates, complainant(s), witnesses and employees to gather evidence and facts related to alleged violations of Department policies and procedures, and present written findings in clear concise and impartial reports.
  • Supervises inmates who are subject to and/or participate in investigatory processes.
  • Analyzes complaints to identify critical issues and develops an investigative plan to determine appropriate course of action to conduct the investigation/inquiry.
  • Advises contracted counsel and/or general liability insurance provider on operational concerns/policies related to claims and provides detailed information related to the management of such claims.
  • Responds to request for interrogatories.
  • Receives audits and verifies fiscal documents for accuracy and completeness and/or prepares quarterly records on all expenditures for loss control and/or analyses programs and/or assists in the preparation of bi-annual budget.
  • Serves as Records Management Custodian for Corrections Risk Management Unit.
  • Conducts onsite and offsite safety and security inspections.
  • Serves as the liaison with Risk Management and the Assistant County Attorney for the Corrections Department and the County’s general liability insurance carrier.
  • Assists with monitoring of behavioral healthcare contract for inmates assigned to ensure contract adherence.
  • Conducts and reports monthly inspections.
  • Monitors mail and telephone calls of inmates involved in critical events and/or when complaints are received that may lead to litigation.
  • Testifies in court to the validity and explanation of inmate records.
  • Presents written findings in clear concise and impartial reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Risk Management, Business Administration or closely related field and one year of risk management, investigation, insurance underwriting; or adjusting experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training or experience.

Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Correctional Officer certification within the first year of employment. Must not have been convicted or plead no contest to a felony.
 
Preferences
   Possession of State of Florida Correctional Officer certification

Corrections experience

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
