SENIOR SAFETY & LOSS PREVENTION ANALYST

General Functions
   Responsible for conducting safety inspections of work sites and incident/injury investigations in order to effectively eliminate and/or minimize loss exposures to the County. Develops and implements programs to reduce or/and minimize losses to the County.

Performs professional duties in the development of employee safety training programs. Designs, writes, produces, and implements training programs. Designs, writes, produces and implements training programs aimed to reducing injuries/accidents in the workplace.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Researches, develops, and implements safety/loss prevention programs that minimize the self-funded and insured losses to the County.
  • Conducts safety inspections based on loss trend analysis to eliminate or control the risk of loss to Orange County and provides recommendations that will eliminate or reduce the risk of losses. Researches and develops written reports based on inspections, surveys, and observations.
  • Evaluates safety and occupational risk programs for the County and determines compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Determines and prepares written standard safety operating procedures to ensure compliance and reduce the loss/risk to the County.
  • Compiles statistical data to determine trends and identify and apply proper preventive methods.
  • Serves as consultant, advises and confers with Department heads, Division managers, union representatives, and other safety and occupational health professional on safety matters as well as develops and carries out safety education activities.
  • Provides assistance in advancing skills of Safety and Loss Prevention Analysts.
  • Establishes contacts with various organizations that can assist in meeting training needs through brochures, videos and speakers.
  • Participates in the new employee orientation program to introduce safety awareness to employees. Coordinates or provides safety training programs such as for fork lift operators, chain saws, etc.
  • Monitors division compliance with federal and state mandated training programs such as, but not limited to, hazardous material handling, hearing conservation programs, confined space entry, and excavation safety programs.
  • Observes workers to determine use of prescribed equipment, such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing.
  • Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector and light meter.
  • Prepares report for inspection findings with recommendation for corrective action.
  • Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending prevention safety measures and developing safety program.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Safety and/or Risk Management or related field and three years of experience in safety and/or loss prevention administration; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training or experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and PowerPoint
 
Preferences
   Knowledge of OSHA, FDOT Regulations and Worker’s Compensation Systems, Certified Safety Trainers in areas of maintenance, construction, utilities or traffic.
