CLAIMS SPECIALIST

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Assist the department's claim administration section. Prepares agenda for the Risk Management Committee, Board of County Commissioners, and pays departmental invoices.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Files documentation into the compensation, liability, property, and crime claim files.
  • Monitors, audits and processes self insurance claim checks for medical care or indemnification to injured employees, damages to county property, or persons claiming loss as a result of the County's negligence.
  • Prepares the agenda for the Orange County Board of County Commissioner's meeting.
  • Performs various duties as recording secretary for the Intergovernmental Risk Management committees' regular session and the executive session. Develops, prepares and distributes the agenda for the Risk Management Committee as well as the case file packet for discussion in the meeting.
  • Monitors, audits and processes for payment the occupational medicine contract.
  • Monitors and audits insurers payment of claims that have exceeded the self-insurance retention.
  • Monitors and oversees the third party administrators' claim adjusting of medical only claims.
  • Acts as backup for Risk Management Analysts regarding workers' compensation and liability claim issues during their absence or as necessary.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High school diploma and three years of claims, risk management, financial or progressively responsible clerical experience. College training in Business or Risk Management or a closely related field may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Workers' Compensation adjusting license or must obtain it within six months of entering into position. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word software.

   Knowledge of Microsoft Access and PowerPoint
