SAFETY INSPECTOR

General Functions
   This position is responsible for conducting safety inspections of work sites and incident/injury investigations in order to effectively reduce and minimize accident and injury cases. Writing reports relating to those activities and the records management of the reports. These responsibilities are accomplished in concert with and support of the County and Divisional safety plans. Provide technical safety information and assistance to management and staff. This position may also assist in the development of safety policies, plans and training.

Duties include development and maintenance of an annual inspection schedule, conducting inspections of work sites which may be in confined, awkward, difficult to reach areas, and responding to and conducting incident investigations. Conducting timely submittal of inspection and incident investigation reports, performing efficient and effective records management and participating in training sessions. Using effective oral and written communication, computer word processing and spreadsheet programs, and participating in development of safety policies. Promoting County and Divisional safety policies and plans.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Manager or Safety Administrator, who reviews the work for satisfactory achievement of desired objectives through conferences, inspections and reports.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from high school and three years experience working with a formalized safety program. An Associate's degree in Safety or a related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Must possess and maintain professional safety certification from a nationally or locally recognized safety organization within 1 year of hire date. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
