RISK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

General Functions
  

This position performs professional level work in the development, implementation and evaluation of risk management programs.

Work is performed under supervision of the Manager. Performance is reviewed through completed assignments, reports and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Provides assistance, advice and support on risk management and insurance matters to include analyzing and making recommendations on departmental program needs.
  • Reviews and negotiates insurance and indemnification language in contracts, leases, and agreements.
  • Evaluates legal correspondence regarding claim issues, develops audit standards and audits legal bills for compliance and negotiates claim settlements at mediations.
  • Develops analytical reports, which identify through statistical trending, areas to target for enhanced training and corrective action.
  • Coordinates special studies and research projects to include self-insurance, safety issues, proposed legislation, and governmental regulations.
  • Performs risk management analysis to implement and monitor cost effective claim reduction programs.
  • Develops and implements loss-sensitive cost allocation systems that includes assessment of service levels, cost/benefit analysis, and projection of premiums and claims.
  • Prepares budget and analyses funding levels of claim reserves.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Associate's degree from an accredited institution and one (1) year of insurance or risk management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

 
Preferences
  

A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Public Administration.
