NETWORK ARCHITECT

General Functions
   This is a professional technical position that performs planning and design of voice, data, and/or trunked radio network communications for all County departments and Elected Officials. A person in this classification establishes standards and methods for voice, data, and/or trunked radio network communications, defines the strategic direction for electronic communications, microwave systems, and provides consulting services to all County departments, Elected Officials and State agencies.

Work is performed with independence under the general supervision of the Enterprise IT Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Develops network requirements from customer needs, defines functional and technical specifications and architects a suitable network infrastructure design. Obtains quotes for the procurement of these networks.
  • Performs project management for networks planned and under construction. Acquires hardware and software to support the network requirements.
  • Provides second tier support for problem resolution and interfaces with vendors, telephone companies and County departments, Elected Officials and State agencies.
  • Analyses network performance and performs capacity planning to engineer the appropriate type and size circuits, bi-directional amplifier and distributed antennas systems.
  • Researches, tests and evaluates cost benefits of emerging technologies to determine applicability to government requirements.
  • May provide support in Radio Frequency (RF), multiple radio management systems, RF test equipment, antenna concepts, FCC licensing, radio dispatch consoles, repeater systems, transmission lines, and bulkheads.
  • Develops and delivers technical training and seminars on network technologies used by the County.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other closely related field and four years experience supporting converged voice and data networks and/or trunked simulcast radio systems with multiple locations.

OR

Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other closely related field and six years experience supporting converged voice and data networks and/or trunked simulcast radio systems with multiple locations.

Ability to program and support voice and data networks, microwave systems and/or trunked radio systems and software.
