LAUNDRY WORKER

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Performs routine, manual labor in an institutional laundry. The work requires the performance of a variety of standardized laundry tasks which involve participation in several hand and machine operations. Operates extractors, washers and steam equipment on a volume basis and, in addition, performs exchanges on personal items of clothing.

Work is performed under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor and is inspected while in process and upon completion.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Performs a number of laundry tasks including checking and sorting laundry for repair, washing, assembling laundry after washing, drying and folding.
  • Operates washers, dryers, sewing machines and other equipment.
  • Responsible for personal laundry pickups, cleaning and re-distribution. Repairs garments and mattresses as required.
  • Cleans and maintains laundry work area.
  • Drives laundry vehicle as required for exchanges, deliveries or necessary maintenance/repairs.
  • Performs related work as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to work within guidelines set by Policy and Procedure in security areas.

Some knowledge of the operation of laundry equipment. Ability to work in a relatively hot and moist atmosphere and perform duties while standing for long periods of time. Sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy loads at frequent intervals. Must be able to work with inmate workers in a remote location.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
 
Preferences
   Previous laundry experience.
