LAUNDRY WORKER

General Functions
  

This key position performs routine, manual labor in an institutional laundry.  The work requires the performance of a variety of standardized laundry tasks which involve participation in several hand and machine operations.  Operates extractors, washers and steam equipment on a volume basis and, in addition, performs exchanges on personal items of clothing. 

Work is performed under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor and is inspected while in process and upon completion.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Performs several laundry tasks including checking and sorting laundry for repair, washing, assembling laundry after washing, drying and folding.
  • Operates washers, dryers, sewing machines and other equipment.
  • Responsible for personal laundry pickups, cleaning and re-distribution.  Repairs garments and mattresses as required.
  • Cleans and maintains laundry work area.
  • Drives laundry vehicle as required for exchanges, deliveries or necessary maintenance/repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Some knowledge of the operation of laundry equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work within guidelines set by policy and procedure in security areas. Must be able to work with inmate workers in a remote location.

In lieu of the required experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

 
Preferences
  

Previous laundry experience.
